Sweden: everybody's doing it! (boating in brief from SweBoat)

At www.sweboat.org you can download a really interesting report about boating in Sweden. Sweboat is the trade organisation for the Swedish Marine Industry. The main objectives of the federation are to promote and protect the common interest of the industry, to create favourable conditions for the industry as well as to create a positive attitude towards boating in society at large.
From this report, some points come out to portray the swedish climate about boating:
- "One-third of the county's adult population go boating at least once a season"
- "Sweden has more pleasure boats per capita than almost any other country in the World".
- "Sweden has some 2.700 kilometres of coastline, extending from Haparanda in the north to Svinesund in the west. If you includes all the inlets and islands the coastline is 8.000 Km long, wich is one fifth of the way round the world".
- "Sweden has some of the world's most extensive archipelago comprising more 60.000 islands. The Stockholm Archipelago alone has 30.000 islands. Inland, there are 95.000 navigable lakes and 1.000 KM of canals, Over 8,5% of the country's surface is covered by lakes and watercourses".
Sweden is exceptionally well placed for a rich boating life and people knows that sailing, whether racing or cruising, is an experience like no other!
Our advice for 2008? Make it your year to go sailing!! :-)
