The Geology Road in Västernorrland

geovagen_2.jpg

"Geologivägen i Västernorrland" is a project of the County of Västernorrland aimed at creating a route into the world of geology. It contains geological sites which show geological formations and processes or ways of using geology.

geovagen_1.jpgThe purpose is to provide physical locations that show examples of valuable geological formations (e.g. ravines and caves), exploitation of rock (e.g. quarries) and social structures (e.g. rail construction).
Geology Road also aims to inform and to increase knowledge of geological conditions and processes, to arouse curiosity and provide inspiration.
There is basic information about the sites, things that may be useful to know before visiting, what the site requires of a visitor and a description of how to get there. Each site has its own information sheet about its geology. There are also fact sheets available for each type of geological formation, along with suggestions for study material for some of the sites. The foundation of Geology Road has three aspects; nature, exploitation and society. Different geological formations provide a basis for natural variation, but are also the necessary conditions for building a society. This has always been true and is still true today!

Interesting is the section "Äventyrare!", which lists more "performing" sites, if you're not scared by a little bit more "climbing" or trekking...
Now it's time to jump at the website for deepening and start planning next excursion in the Höga Kusten! The website is both in Swedish and in English (translation quite completed).
