A "Final Report" about fish-farming in Västernorrland County - Part II

Please see what was stated on page 77 of this report about Fish farming and their impact on the coastal environment:

"... - Under environmental aspects fish farms have to be regarded as an enormous pollution source.

- The volume of discharged phosphorous of the visited fish farm in Västernorrland corresponds to the discharge of a city with 80,000 inhabitants or that of a paper plant (Note: this was in 2001!).
Therefore it is of highest relevance for the quality of coastal waters to control the nutrient loss of fish farms. However, further investigations are needed to assess the impact and to define limits when the impact becomes crucial for marine biotopes. ..."
