Swedish bird species calls on Swedish Radio P2-Fågel
On Swedish Radio, the item P2-Fågel collects 136 bird species calls and its description. From P2-Fågel's website, we translated in english the history of the program:
For 30 years, from 1963 to 1993, the interval signal of a bird has been a very familiar element on radio broadcasting. During that period, the signal was changed every week.
Sten Wahlström, famous radio staff member in the field of nature, science and history, was responsible of the recordings and of the presentations.
When the program was over, many were disappointed and the management of the radio decided reintroduce the program as an exclusive P2 matter. The task gave result that the birds interested P2 producer Bengt Emil Johnson asked immediately Sten Wahlström to put back its unique recording material and his big ornithological experience at disposal of radio listeners. So came the new item "P2-fågel", which introduces a new bird each month from January 1994, when the energic singing of the nuthatch opened the series that now is entering its ninth season.
The archive of Sten Wahlström with bird singings have been build up in several decades and includes all the most popular swedish species. 197 species calls are collected in a double-cd distributed by Naturskyddsförening (see this link to NSF's Naturbutik). Font: Sveriges Radio
